Massage Therapy

Massage, the practice of soft tissue manipulation of the muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues has been proven to serve a number of important functions such as pain relief, stress reduction, enhanced athletic performance, increased relaxation, lymphatic drainage and toxin release and a marked improvement in overall health and well being.

About Our Massage

We offer both medical and relaxation massage therapy. Post –injury and postoperative pain can complicate and delay a patient’s recovery, lengthen hospital stays and costs, and interfere with a patient’s return to activities of daily living.  In many people, pain medications can have unpleasant side effects.  Research indicates that massage can decrease post-injury and postoperative pain, decrease pain intensity, decrease pain unpleasantness/distress, decrease sympathetic responses to pain, accelerate the rate of decline in the intensity of pain, and decrease doses of analgesics and increase levels of calmness/feelings of well-being.

California recently passed a law creating a state massage certification. As of September 1, 2009, a massage therapist is able to work anywhere in the state with only one certificate. The law defines a "Massage Therapist" as having a minimum education of 500 hours. The massage therapists at PAPT are licensed to work in the state of California and have well over 500 hours of education and experience working in rehabilitation.
